Rev. Msgr. Kevin Peter Hand

Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 13 at St. Laurence Cathedral.  Mass will be celebrated at St. Laurence Cathedral at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 14. Bishop Patrick Zurek will act as celebrant and Bishop Emeritus Leroy Mathiesen will act as homilist. Local arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Funeral services in Ireland are under the direction of P. Townley and Sons Funeral Director, Drogheda, Ireland with burial at Dowth Cemetery.
Rev. Msgr. Hand was born February 6, 1925 in Monaghan, Ireland to John and Mary Ann Hand.  He attended elementary and high school at Drogheda C.B.S. and Seminary at St. Patrick’s Seminary, Thurles, Ireland and St. John’s Seminary, Little Rock, AR.  He was ordained at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Little Rock. He was ordained as a priest on May 31, 1952.
His first appointment in the Amarillo Diocese was as Assistant Pastor at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in September 1952.  He was appointed Pastor of Holy Angels Church in Childress in June 1959 with mission at St. Elizabeth’s in Paducah. Subsequently, he served as Pastor of St. Patrick’s in Shamrock with its mission at Wellington, Immaculate Conception Church in Vega, Pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul in Dumas with missions at Sunray and Cactus, Pastor at St. Anthony’s in Dalhart with the missions of Stratford and Perico, and Pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Groom and Sacred Heart in White Deer. Rev. Msgr. Hand received Papal Honor (Monsignor) Prelate of Honor to His Holiness John Paul II in 1985. He retired in 2004 and was appointed sacramental minister of St. Mary’s in Umbarger.
He served in the Diocesan Presbyteral Council, Priest’s Personnel Board, Dean of the Pampa (East) Deanery, Director of Diocesan C.Y.O., Moderator of Amarillo Newman Club and College of Consultors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Maureen Linehan and Rose Manning, and one brother, Patrick Joseph.
He is survived by five brothers, John, Paschal, Dominic, Paul and Brendan; three sisters, Elizabeth, Kathleen and Gretta (Sister M. Rita, MMM); twenty-three grand nephews and nieces and thirty great-grand nephews and nieces.
