Reymundo “Rey” Velarde, Sr., 74, died Monday, June 3, 2013, in Amarillo.
Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, in Brentwood Chapel at Schooler Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 6 in St. Martin’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Rex Nicholl as celebrant. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Reymundo was born June 3, 1939 in Whitland, Wyoming to Moses and Delfina Velarde. He married the love of his life, Abbie Ramos in 1955 in Odessa. They moved to Amarillo in 1962. Rey worked as a brick mason from the age of 19. He was a masonry contractor in this area and loved to build homes. He was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Abbie; a daughter, Gina Domme of Amarillo; three sons, Nikki, Rey Jr., and Richard of Amarillo; two sisters, Paula Chavez and Yolanda Velarde, both of Midland; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
