A long-time resident of Amarillo, Richard went home to his Lord on Sunday, April 26, 2009. He was born January 5, 1944 in El Campo, Texas to Bill and Maude Appling. He graduated from the University of Houston with a BS in Pharmacy. He also obtained a Master’s in Biblical Studies from Criswell Bible College in Dallas. He was a registered pharmacist. He was also an ordained minister. Richard was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School. He was a long-standing deacon. He was also involved in mission trips to Korea, China, Poland, the Dominican Republic and Mexico. The family will receive visitors at the church following the service.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nancy; two daughters, Tara Appling-Crisp of Amarillo and Krista Appling of Dallas; one son, Rick Appling and wife Misty of Denton; his twin brother, Robert Appling of Midlothian, VA and his sister Mary Jane Porcarello of Houston; and three grandchildren who were the joys of his life, Garrett, Avery and Chloe.
