Richard Ira Bean

May 29, 1946 — July 4, 2016

Richard Ira Bean, born May 29, 1946 in Pampa, TX, left this world on July 4, 2016, surrounded by family and friends.

Graveside Service will be at 9:30 AM, Saturday, July 9, at Memorial Park Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 AM at Bykota Baptist Church with Pastor Linvell Tisdale and Chris Moore as officiants.

Family will receive friends on Friday, July 8th from 5 PM to 7 PM at Schooler Funeral Home located at 4100 South Georgia.

A 1965 graduate of Tascosa High School, Richard served in the Naval Reserves as a radioman during the Vietnam era. He fell head-over-heels for Debbie O’Dell and they married in 1969. Combining his love for the Lord and music, Richard was ordained into music ministry in 1978 and served full-time or bi-vocationally in various churches throughout Texas and Oklahoma for the next 36 years. One of his greatest joys was singing bass with the Top of Texas Quartet. Singing fueled Richard’s soul and lifted his spirit through many years of deteriorating health. He retired from Pantex in 2013 after 27 years of service. Those close to Richard know the things that fed his soul were the Lord, music and, let’s be honest, BBQ!

He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Anadel Bean and sister-in-law, Sharon Bean.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Debbie, daughters Ginger Moore and husband, Jim, of Knoxville, TN, Leslie Hammonds, and husband, Adam, of Amarillo, TX, grandchildren, Sarah, William, and Leah, and a brother, Carl Eugene Bean.

A special thanks to Dr. Constantine K. Saadeh and his knowledgeable staff for many years of compassionate care. Dr. Saadeh not only cared for his physical body, but also with words of comfort that encouraged his spirit.

Please honor Richard in any way you feel led… Mend a relationship, be kind to someone, do something you’ve been scared to do, or just make someone laugh. Create memories with your family and friends that will last a lifetime. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to BYKOTA Baptist Church, 4202 NE 26th Ave., Amarillo, Texas, 79107 or The Gideon’s International, P. O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN, 37214-0800
