Richard Albert Herbsleb age 98 of Amarillo died peacefully at his home on November 18, 2021

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.  The Rev. John Valdez will officiate.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Military Honors will be rendered by the Texas Volleys for Veteran’s.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Richard was born in San Antonio on January 25, 1923. He graduated from the University of Texas and proudly served in the US Army Air Force. Richard worked for over thirty four years for McKesson Drug Company as a drug buyer.

Richard was a multifaceted individual who was involved in the Lion’s Club, Keep Amarillo Beautiful, several horticulture clubs and a member of the Master Gardner’s.  Although his enjoyment of those things was immense it paled to his belief and life-long devotion to the Boy Scouts of America.  From an early age he was involved in the organization.  He was instrumental in mentoring Eagle Scouts in the area from 1970 until 1999 and he was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.

He was a leader and mentor, a strong and stern individual who believed in truth and honesty.  He led by example and was unafraid to stand up for what he believed in. He had a passion for reading and enjoyed the stories of Louis L”Amour and history.  He had a heart of gold and was a great man and friend to many.

Richard is survived by his closest friends, Mark Stephens and Dino Grosz and families.
