Richard Howard Holmes age 79 of Amarillo died October 17, 2022.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel. Mr. Curtis Shackelford will officiate.
Richard was born December 21, 1942, to Edward Howard and Ethel Mae Holmes. After completing high school he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. Shortly after returning home, he met Modeina Poindexter. The couple was married on January 4, 1964. They would then start a journey that would last the next 58 years together.
Richard lived within a mile of where he was raised, keeping his community tight. He enjoyed making people laugh and could be a big tease, however, he was a very loving individual that cherished his family and friends.
Richard was a hardworking man and made his living as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, riding his Harley, hunting, fishing, and camping, what made those times even more special was when they were shared with his favorite sidekick, his son Matt. He was a member of a motorcycle club, the “Top of the Hill Gang.” Richards made many friends over the years and in his eyes, if you were a friend of his, you were family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Richard is survived by his wife, Modeina; his two daughters, Michelle Gugenheim of Canyon and Marcie Holmes of Amarillo; by his son, Matt Holmes also of Amarillo; his sister, Nadia Cox of Allen, Texas; a brother, James Holmes and his wife Shirley of Amarillo; by seven grandchildren, Koury, Hayden, Mason, Breanne, Julie, Heather, and Dylan; and by 8 great-grandchildren, Juniper, Novalea, Elizabeth, James, Audrey, Demarco, Adalei and Diego.
