Richard Poklacki Sr, 89, of Amarillo, passed away May 28, 2022.
Memorial Mass will be at 2pm on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 S. Coulter St with Father John Valdez as celebrant. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
Richard was born August 18, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Sigmund and Kathryn (Hollis) Poklacki. Richard grew up in the northwest side of Chicago, IL. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1952 as a radar technician during the Korean War. Richard was honorably discharged in 1955 as a Sargent. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Ribbon, Korea Service Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal. Upon discharge, he returned to the Chicago Tribune where he worked for 50 years. After spending the majority of his life living in Chicago, he moved to Amarillo, TX where he spent the last 20 years of his life with his wife, kids, and grandchildren. Richard loved airplanes, trains, journaling and kept a diligent home bookkeeping system. He was an active member of the VFW and American Legion for over 65 years. Richard loved to share what he had and donated to numerous charities throughout the years. Richard loved to travel and loved to spend time with his family. Most of all, he enjoyed making others smile and laugh.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents Katherine Hollis - Poklacki, Sigmund Poklacki, and Brother Erwin Poklacki.
Richard is survived by his wife, Nancy Ingram; sons, Richard Poklacki, Robert Poklacki & Michael Flanigan; daughter Dorthy Brown, stepdaughters Lori Ingram, Gail Hoskins, and Kendra Fronterhouse; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
