Richard Dean Riley, Sr.

July 10, 1929 — February 23, 2009

Mr. Riley was born July 10, 1929 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to William D. and Mary Riley.  He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids and attended Amarillo College and OCU in Oklahoma.  He served in the U.S. Air Force from September 8, 1948 until August 6, 1952, attaining the rank of Staff Sgt.
He married Jo-Anne Cermak on April 19, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  He and his wife have lived in Amarillo since 1955.
Mr. Riley was an operation supervisor with AT&T in Amarillo for 35 years.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.  He was a retired Roman Catholic Permanent Deacon, after 25 years of service.
He spent several years in scouting, hospital ministry and parish life.  It was his desire to serve as needed in both the local and religious communities.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William D. Riley, Jr.; and one daughter, Paula Durham.
He is survived by his wife, Jo-Anne Riley of the home; two daughters, Kathleen Hestera of Norman, Oklahoma and Christina Edgmon of Yukon, Oklahoma; five sons, Richard D. Riley, Jr. of Arlington, Texas; Kevin Riley and Christopher Riley of Amarillo; Craig Riley of Atlanta, Georgia; Shawn Riley of Bonner Springs, Kansas; one brother, Wayne Riley of Bend, Oregon; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Dick Groninger.
