Richard Anthony “Dick” Wilcox, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend gained eternal rest on Sunday, August 28, 2016, surrounded by his family. Dick was born on September 25, 1927, in Moline, Illinois. He graduated from Moline High School in 1945. After graduation, he worked for the Corps of Engineers from 1945-1946 and International Harvester from 1946 until 1950. In 1950, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He attended Moline Community College where he was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa scholastic honor fraternity, and then graduated from Iowa State College in June 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. The same month, he married the love of his life, the former Patricia Hogan, and began his career with Mason & Hanger – Silas Mason Co. at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Burlington, Iowa. In 1974, he transferred to Amarillo, Texas, to work at the Pantex plant. After a 39-year career with Mason & Hanger, he retired in 1997 as an assistant division manager. After retirement, he was a frequent volunteer with various charities and the Amarillo Police Department, and attended daily mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Club. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Walter and Elizabeth Wilcox; his brother, Walter Wilcox, Jr.; his sister, Rita Maxwell; and a grandson, Ethan Wilcox. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; children Beth Schmidt, Mary Miller, Stephen Wilcox, and Candy Koharchik; five grandchildren, and a host of friends he considered family.
