Rita Marie Artho, 83, of Canyon died Saturday, May 3, 2014.
A vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, 5/5/14 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Canyon, TX. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, 5/6/14 at St. Anthony’s of Padua Catholic Church of Dalhart, TX. Burial at Dalhart Cemetery.
Rita was born on September 13, 1930 in Dawn, Texas to Elizabeth and Conrad Westhoff. She married Leo Artho on November 15, 1949 in Umbarger, Texas. Leo and Rita had nine children and moved to Dalhart in 1970.
Rita was a mother to many. She owned a daycare, was an excellent seamstress and was the best German Chocolate Cake baker. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Canyon, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Amarillo, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Dalhart and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Umbarger.

She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club, Legion of Mary, a 4-H leader in Dallam and Randall county; member of Christian Mothers, Altar Society and volunteer for Amarillo Agency for Women.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 42 years, Leo Artho, a sister – Theresa Westhoff and a son-in-law, Harold Wilhelm and many other family members.
Survivors include her children, Virgil Artho, Deloris Jones and husband, William, Karen Green and husband, Bud, Louis Artho and wife, Yvonne, Sharon Dudley and husband, Tim, Faye Wilhelm, Mary Hiner and husband, Mark, Karla Hester and husband, Tony, and Allen Artho and wife, Donna; Sisters, Alice Allen, Helen Schwertner, Margaret Giles, Gladys Meyer, and Catherine Freeby, Grandchildren, Adam Artho, Marshall Artho, Melanie Pubantz, Shara Britten, Shanna Morrison, Elizabeth Love, April Wiseman, Hilary Green, Katie Green, Jeff Artho, Gary Artho, Keith Artho, Sarah McWhorter, Ben Artho, Becca Artho, Travis Dudley, Michael Dudley, Carissa Wilhelm, Jeremy C. Wilhelm, Kylie Hiner, Lauren Hiner, Justin Hester, Tosha Hester, Austin Artho, Alex Artho, and thirteen Great Grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends.
