Robert Burks, 80, of Amarillo died Friday, July 18, 2014.
Rosary will be at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, and a visitation will follow rosary. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. John Valdez. Concelebrant will be Msgr. Harold Waldow. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Robert was born July 20, 1933, in Fredrick, Oklahoma and grew up in Midland. He was a graduate of Texas Tech University and was a proud Red Raider Alum. Robert moved to Amarillo in 1962, when he began working for Panhandle Insurance Agency, eventually becoming a partner and then owner.
Throughout the years, he served on many community boards and was active in his church, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He also was involved in events and activities in which his children and grandchildren participated.
He is survived by his wife Neva, four children Kyle Heitmiller and wife Pam of Belton, Brad Burks and wife Mishelle of Denton, Darel Tenhoff and husband Craig of Sequim, Washington, Kelle Hall and Jim Simon of Dallas,: two sister, Phyllis Crawford of Waco and Amy Burks of Edmund, OK.; and eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren
