Robert “Bobby” Eugene Cornett, 82, passed away on April 1, 2009, in Odessa, Texas. Bobby was a lifelong resident of Groom, Texas. He was born June 9, 1926, in Groom to William and Arizona Cornett, who were early settlers in the Texas Panhandle. During WWII he served in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a nose gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber. Upon returning after the war, he worked for Murphy-Spicer Funeral Directors before starting with the U.S. Postal Service. He worked at the Groom Post Office for 41 years, serving as Groom’s postmaster for nearly 20 years. He served on the Groom City Council, the Groom ISD School Board, and was the secretary/treasurer for the First Baptist Church of Groom. Bobby was a supporter of all local activities and athletic events.
Burial will be at Groom Cemetery.
Mr. Cornett was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Aileene, and a brother, Billy.
