Robert George Schoppa, 96, of Amarillo, died Monday, July 6, 2015.
Burial will be at 4:30 P.M. Saturday July 11, 2015 in Memory Gardens Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5005 W Interstate 40, with Rev. Brian Hesse, Rev. Dr. Samuel Nafzger and Rev. Adam Hengst officiating.
Robert was born on January 31, 1919 in Vernon, Texas to August and Louise Schoppa. He was baptized into the Christian faith February 16, 1919 at Zion Lutheran. He married Dorothy Karcher on November 19, 1941 at St. Paul Lutheran in Vernon and they were blessed with seventy three years of marriage. Robert was a strong Christian who loved his Lord and shared his faith in Jesus Christ.
He was a devoted husband and father who worked hard as a farmer to provide for his family. He enjoyed tending to God’s creation, fishing, gardening and baseball. As a member of Trinity Lutheran Church he served as Sunday School Superintendent, on the Board of Elders for eighteen years, and also on the Stewardship Board.
He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Schoppa; a son-in-law, Earnest Hengst; four brothers; and three sisters.
Robert is survived by his wife; one son, Dr. Keith Schoppa and wife, Beth of Towson, MD three daughters, Janis Nafzger and husband, Samuel of Washington, MO, Nancy Duensing and husband, Paul of Denver, CO, and Karen Hengst of Las Vegas, NM; one daughter in law, Debbie Schoppa of Tampa, FL; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 PM today at the funeral home.
