Robert "Bob" Mansel Merriman

Robert M. “Bob” Merriman, 88, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019.

Family will receive friends from 6:30 – 7:30 pm, Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at the funeral home. Memorial Service will be at 3:00 pm, Thursday, February 14, 2019 in Polk Street United Methodist Church with Rev. John Love officiating. Private family interment will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Bob was born at home Christmas Eve 1930 In Amarillo, Texas to Jess and Ruth Merriman and was the youngest of three children.

He married the love of his life Carolyn Sue Allston in 1952 at West Amarillo Christian Church.

Bob was a graduate of Amarillo High School and Amarillo College and attended Texas Tech University. He enlisted in the Air Force where he served four years during the Korean conflict.

In 1955 Bob began working in the family business, Merriman’s Fine Foods in Amarillo. He took ownership of the business after his father’s death and eventually moved the store from 2121 S. Washington to the newly built Wolflin Square. He took pride in serving high end quality prime beef and gourmet items. Merriman’s was known for call-in orders, free home delivery service and specialized services for the customer.  Bob taught his employees to always put the needs of the customer first and that “serving the customer” was the reason for their job.  After a life-changing experience with the Lord, Bob eventually closed his business to pursue full time ministry and life-long dreams.  He was ordained into the Evangelical Presbyterian Church and served in various capacities with different fellowships.

Bob had a great passion for the mountains where he always felt a closeness to God. He was an avid fly fisherman and hunter. He and Sue followed that passion and moved to Estes Park Colorado where he owned a bookstore and continued in ministry.  In the mid 1980’s Bob and Sue moved back to Amarillo where Bob managed the High Plains Food Bank warehouse before retiring.

Bob’s great delight was family.  He truly loved his wife, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids and always put his family’s needs and safety first.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Francis Howes, and brother Bill Merriman.

He is survived by his wife Sue, son Michael and wife Terri, daughter Kim Clark and husband Dave, son Todd and wife Lori, his grandchildren: Anna Henderson, Michael Merriman Jr., Kristin Hendrix, Braden Clark and Casey Clark, along with seven great-grandchildren. And let’s not forget his beloved dog Morgan.

The family rejoices that Pop is fly fishing again in the High Country and requests memorials to a charity that furthers the passion of those whose lives he touched.
