Roma Gail Perkins, age 83, of Amarillo, passed away on July 6, 2024. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Schooler Funeral Home. A private family graveside will be held in Memory Gardens Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Bret McCasland will officiate.
Gail was born to Gene Mullins and Luie Helbert on September 7, 1940, in Hamilton, Texas. When she was about five, she moved to Childress, Texas, where she attended school. She married L.V. Perkins on June 15, 1957, and they were married for 67 years at her passing. They were blessed by two children, Belinda Richey of Austin and Jeff Perkins and wife Tammy of Amarillo.
When her children started school, she returned to school, completed high school, and earned her associate's degree. She then worked as a social worker for the Texas Department of Child Welfare for 26 years. After early retirement, she worked for ten years for Cal Farleys Boys Ranch.
She was a faithful, involved member of Southwest Church of Christ and taught Sunday school for two-year-olds for 40 years. She enjoyed painting and crocheting, wrote poetry, and loved to play the piano, sing, and bowl. She supported L.V. in all his business ventures.
As a couple, Gail and L.V. embarked on many adventures, making numerous trips with bus tours throughout the states. She also visited Italy and China, making memories with friends.
Gail was preceded in death by her mother and father, a brother, Rodney Mullins, and son-in-law, David Richey.
She is survived by her husband; children; grandchildren, Rachel Richey (Edgar Murrillo), Beau Perkins (Mercy), Summer Barker (Austin) Whitney Waggoner, Camille Byrned (Justin), Dayly Ginnings (Landon); eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Lewene Vassberg Vicki Cook (Randy), Diane Howard; brothers, Randy Mullins (Melinda) and Pat Frost (Peggy).
