April 14, 1924 — January 15, 2012

ROMIE "SOLID" LOPEZ, age 87 of Amarillo died January 15th in Amarillo

Rosary will be said on Tuesday, January 17th at 6:30 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel.  Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel.  Msgr. Rex Nicholl of St. Martins Catholic Church will officiate. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Romie was born April 14, 1924 in Raton, New Mexico to Antonio Valdez and Pablita Madrid.
She made her home in Clayton, New Mexico, with her children: JoAnne, Marjorie, Manuel and
Lucy. During that time, she worked as a Cook at the Eklund Hotel and the Union County
Hospital. She moved her family to Amarillo in 1966. She was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church. Romie was blessed with the God-given, talent and skill of making rosaries for the church, as well as family and friends. She worked at Pantex for 15 years, retiring in 1991.
Many laughs would soon follow when Romie would gather with her children and they would tell stories of when they were growing up. Romie's incredible wit and humor would turn an ordinary story into an extraordinary tale with details that should've been long forgotten. She remembered so much, when many of us tend to forget some things that happen in the past.
Romie is survived by three daughters and a son: JoAnne Bonner of Amarillo, TX; Marjorie and
husband, Ron Burdine of St. Petersburg, FL.; Manuel "Sonny" Vigil and wife, Delfina of White
Deer, TX; Lucy and husband, Ron Blaylock of Amarillo, TX; a sister, Lucy Martinez of Grants, New Mexico; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; Three great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her 2 beloved Chihuahuas, Rambo and Molly.
In lieu of flowers, Romie's family asks that donations be made to:
