RONALD DEAN PATTERSON

September 30, 1940 — October 10, 2012


Ronald Dean Patterson was born September 30, 1940 five miles south of Claude in Armstrong County to Clarence James Patterson and Lena Mae Boles Patterson.

He attended Claude school s and graduated in 1959.  He attended Amarillo College for 2 years.   On June 7, 1963, Ronald married his love and life partner, Stella Allean Goodin in the United Methodist Church in Claude.  They lived in the house where he was born for 14 years, then moved to town in 1977.

They were blessed with two daughters, Tracy and Kim.

Farming was his life.  He helped his dad on the family farm south of Claude until Clarence passed away in 1975.  He continued to farm until the day he passed from this life.
Ronald’s brother, Clarence Patterson, Jr. was a veteran and he loved placing flags at the cemetery on Memorial Day.

When Ronald was young, he worked for Morris & Leon Osborn and Lloyd Logsdon.    He also worked for Southwestern Public Service for 4 years.
In 1968, Ronald ran for Tax Assessor of Armstrong County and took office in 1969.  He served as Tax Assessor for the next 34 years.  He was Chief Appraiser starting in 1981.  He retired from these duties in 2002.  During his long career  and beyond he continued his education and showed support in many areas of the community by dedicating his time and attention to the following activities;
·         Professional Certification:  RTA, RPA, CTA
·         Professional Association Affiliations:  TACA, TAAD, TADA
·         TACA Regional Chapter:  President, Vice President, and several committee’s chairman
·         Charter member of Claude Jaycees; President, Vice President, Treasurer, Jaycee of the Year 1966
·         Chairman of Junior Livestock Board, 8 years; Member of Junior Livestock Association
·         EMT for volunteer Ambulance Service
·         Member of First United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and served as Treasurer
·         Member of Armstrong County Pig Sale
·         4-H Leader for 17 years, Friends of 4-H Award, Honorary Chapter Farmer
·         Taught Hunter Safety Classes
·         Armstrong County Extension Service Committees
·         Armstrong County Agriculture Industries Committee Chairman
·         Citizen of the Month by Chamber of Commerce

Ronald was preceded  in death by his parents, Clarence and Lena Patterson, 1 sister, Nona Wilson, 4 brothers, Darrell Patterson, J.S. Patterson, Frank Patterson, and Clarence Patterson, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Allean of the home, daughter Tracy Schott and husband Clay of Canyon; daughter Kimberly Keys and husband Stevan of Panhandle.  3 Grandsons:  Cole Schott of Canyon, Spencer and Colt Keys of Panhandle, 2 Granddaughters: Cheyann Schott of Canyon and Lynzee Keys of Panhandle.  These were the light of his life.  Also, two nephews, Rick Patterson of Amarillo and Toby Patterson of Canyon, a niece, Sue Liles of Amarillo.  Many other friends and family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, BSA Hospice and First United Methodist Church of Claude
