After basic training in Camp Swift, TX, he was deployed to England. After training in England and not really knowing the assignment, he landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France on June 7, 1944. He married Mary Lou Walker in Marlow, OK on May 23, 1947. She preceded him in death. After WWII ended, he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and ended his career in Amarillo. He married Carolyn (Carol) Brock in Amarillo on June 15, 1991.
He was a long-time active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. In the early years, he taught preschool Sunday School classes and most recently shared teaching in the Harmony Class. He was known as a painter, the dish washer and more recently the flower beds and shrubbery caretaker. He volunteered as a Meals on Wheels driver for over 20 years. He also volunteered at the Canyons Retirement Home assisting with pot luck dinners and birthday parties, meals for students at Wesley Foundation WTA&M in Canyon, Christmas in April projects, many outreach projects at the church, and many of the usual in house volunteer jobs that come along with a church.
