Royce Wilson Garrett, 83, affectionately known by his family as “Papa”, of Amarillo, went to be with his Lord October 8th, 2011. Royce was born July 14, 1928, in Amarillo, Texas, to W.C. and Mary Ellen Garrett. He married his wife, Betty, May 29th, 1969.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 12 at Washington Avenue Christian Church officiated by Rev. Jim Shelburne and Ed Modrick. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
Royce attended Draughn’s Business College and worked at Pantex for 30 years in Cost Accounting and later as head of Payroll.
He enjoyed golf, woodworking, oil painting and time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was a dedicated servant of the Lord and devoted his life to God and his church. He taught Sunday school, and was an elder and deacon at Washington Avenue Christian Church. A man of great integrity, his life was a testimony to everyone who knew him. He had a great sense of humor and always wore a smile. His son stated it best at our dinner prayer, “If heaven could be made better, it happened October 8th.”
He is survived by his wife, Betty, and his beloved dog, Cindy Lou, along with his children, Ken Garrett of Plano, Texas, Debbie Muren and husband, Mark, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Cameron McMinn and wife, Judy, of Augusta, South Carolina. He also has 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; Joann Bolick of Augusta, South Carolina; Mike Garrett and son, Bryson, of Southfork, Colorado; Jodi Goodman and her husband, Tony, of Amarillo and their children, Isaac, Austin and Madison; April Oglesby and her husband, Michael, of Amarillo and their three sons, Brayden, Brooks and Braddock; Jared Garrett and his wife, Monaka, of Amarillo and their two daughters, Zoey and Paizleigh; Tyler Garrett and his wife, Nikki, of Amarillo; Reedie Garrett of Plano; Kelli Osowicki of Colorado Springs and daughter, Hannah; Harmony Longenecker and husband, Josh, of Sarasota, Florida, and their four children, Addison, Aubrey, Gavin, and Kyan; Mark Abram Muren and wife, Rachel, of Chicago, Illinois; and Jonathan Muren and his wife, Nikki, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is also survived by his nephews, David Garrett and James C. Jones, and by his brother, Randall Garrett and his two daughters, Susan and Teresa. Royce is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Preston and Cliff.

The family will receive visitors from 6-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 11, at the funeral home.
