Ruby Denton, 90, of Groom died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at the
Groom United Methodist Church. The Rev. Weldon Rives and Rev. Jonathan Land will officiate. Burial will be in the Groom Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Ruby was born on August 11, 1921 in Jack County, Texas. The family moved to Groom when she was 15 and she graduated from Groom High School. Ruby owned and operated the Golden Spread Grill from 1957 until 2002. She was famous for her cinnamon rolls, hot steak sandwiches and hamburgers; she was an excellent cook. She devoted her life to the business and the only thing she was more passionate about was her family. Ruby loved football and basketball. She supported the Groom Tigers and the Canadian Wildcats, teams for which her grandchildren played.
Ruby will lie in state at the Groom United Methodist Church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, James Angel, Allan Angel, Wayland Angel and J.L. Angel.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruby Jaco and husband, Joe of Canadian and Fran Billington and husband, Scottie of Canyon; five grandchildren, Jyeton Johnigan, Myrlah Jaco Miller, Jyarid Jaco, LeAnn Billington, and Heather Billington; ten great-grandchildren, Colton, Carson, Skyler, Dawson, Teagen, Connor, Piper, Jackson, Sophia, and Clara.
Visitation will be held from 5-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 6, at Schooler Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Groom Methodist Church, 303 Second Street, Groom, TX 79039; or the Groom Ambulance Fund, 203 Broadway Street, Groom, TX 79039.
