On December 31st, 2018, Captain Russell Lynn Davis, retired Texas Highway Patrol, passed from this life and into the presence of his Savior Jesus Christ.
A visitation will be held Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 6-7:00 p.m., at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2019 at The Church at Quail Creek, 801 Tascosa Rd. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
Rusty Davis was born September 6th, 1944 to Tampa Kenner Davis and Vernon Davis. Rusty married the love of his life and best friend Joyce Stanley on June 19th, 1964, enjoying a romance that only grew closer and warmer every day for 54 years. Rusty and Joyce gave birth to thier first son Sean in 1966 and son Shane in 1967.
He began his law enforcement career by joining the Amarillo Police Department in March of 1967, then began his long career with the Texas Department of Public Safety in February of 1970. Through his career he was stationed in Amarillo, Livingston, El Paso, Austin and Garland, serving as Trooper, Sergeant, Lieutenant and ultimately reached the rank of Captain.
Rusty retired in 2003 and began enjoying far more time with his beloved wife and family, roping at Will Rogers Range Riders on his beautiful horses Maybelline and Sundance, flying as a private pilot with the Civil Air Patrol, shooting for fun and competition and running the roads of the nation on his Harley Davidson or in his green Ford 'Bullitt' Mustang. Rusty also served as adjunct instructor with Texas A&M Engineering Extension for several years.
He was a lawman, marksman, horseman, motorcyclist, aviator, beloved husband, father, grandfather, mentor, friend, confidant, leader and amazing inspiration. His family misses him dearly but knows Rusty placed his faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and is resting in His presence at this moment, and will see him again one glorious day.
Russell Lynn Davis is survived by his wife Joyce, his son Sean and daughter in law Julie, son Shane and daughter in law Donna, his grandsons Thomas, Luke, Josh, granddaughter Megan, brother Bobby Dougless of Midland, Texas, Uncle Jimmy 'Bo' Kenner and his wife Glenda Kenner of Kenai, Alaska, Uncle Jack Kenner of Lake Palestine, Texas and many other nephews, cousins, kin and countless friends.
