To know her was to love her.Ruth was born December 16, 1923 in Independence, Kansas. In the summer of 1942, she followed her dream of moving to California. While traveling through Amarillo, a friend told her she should meet a handsome Army serviceman. She did meet Morris Martin on a blind date, married six weeks later, and never made it to California. After 53 years of marriage, Morris died in March 1995.That same year Ruth revisited her quest for travel and adventure by traveling to the Holy Land and retracing the journeys of the Apostle Paul. Following her longing to walk where Jesus walked, deepened her spiritual awareness and relationship with the Lord. Her steadfast faith will be forever remembered by those who witnessed her faithful proclamations of God’s goodness despite numerous health issues. In addition to being a fabulous Mom and faithful follower of Christ, Ruth also had gifts with a paint brush and needle and thread. She was a master in the craft of alterations. Through the years she worked for Colbert’s Sakowitz, Dunlaps and her favorite J. Winston. She worked there until she was 80 and often commented she would still be working there today if she could see to thread a needle.Ruth put the word grand in grandmother. She never missed a birthday or significant event. Her grandchildren could always count on a card with money in it from Meme. Her daughter, Darlene, her primary caregiver would personally like to thank the dream team that helped Mom in her final months. Her dear Stephen minister, Marilyn fondly nicknamed Miss Tuesday. Gradually everyday was a Tuesday! Her home communion ministers, Delores and Davlyn; day time caregiver, Lisa; home hospice nurses, DeAnn and Marilyn; and Counselor Peter provided beyond expected service.Ruth is survived by her children Pat Martin and his wife, Sue of Claude, Texas, Cynthia Nix and her husband, Stan of Kingwood, Texas; Annette Martin, Darlene Martin, and Jon Martin of Amarillo; Mary Cluck and her husband Brad, of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.The family requests all memorials be to the St. Mary’s Church Stephen Ministry.
