Samuel Raymond Kotara, 44, of Amarillo died Wednesday, July 15, 2015.
Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with the Rev. Scott Raef of Saint Mary’s Cathedral as celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in White Deer. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
Samuel was born in Amarillo on Aug. 24, 1970, to Dennis and Betty Baggerman Kotara. He was raised in Panhandle, where he was baptized in and attended Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church. After high school, Samuel went on to attend Texas Tech University, which he was very proud of and thus became a diehard Raider fan. He was also a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon.
He was a very successful business man. He worked in the software industry and farmed with his brother, Lacy. Although he kept busy in his professional life, his heart was committed to his family, especially his son. They spent hours working with Legos and also enjoyed swimming together. “Donuts with daddy” were special times the two shared, and they always looked forward to being with one another.
Samuel loved the outdoors, whether playing golf or snow skiing, he enjoyed numerous activities and especially loved to travel and had a fondness for music. He attended Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Kotara, in 2013.
Survivors include his son, John Theodore Kotara; his mother, Betty Kotara of Panhandle; two sisters, Karen Kotara–Kwiatkowski and husband Mike of Dallas and Courtney Kotara–Reeder and husband Mark of Muleshoe; his brother, Lacy Kotara and wife Krystal of Amarillo; and nephews and niece, Cash Reeder and Brooklynn and Levi Kotara.
