Scott Lynn Mayes, 50, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015.
Vigil will be held at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M., on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Arena of Life Cowboy Church, 8827 S FM 1541, Amarillo with Pastor Buzz Busby officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home 4100 S. Georgia St.
Scott was born May 27, 1964 to Johnny L. Mayes & Joyce Kennedy in Amarillo. He attended Palo Duro High School in Amarillo where he participated in track, football, wrestling, boxing, swimming, and bull riding. Scott married the love of his life, Annette Vigil, May 11, 1985. They went on to have two children in which he was very active as a coach throughout their lives in TAWA wresting, all kids inc. sports, and golf. He was blessed with a grandson Xman in 2009 in which he went on to participate in TJBRA (Texas junior bull riders association), Cowkids for Christ, and various rodeo organizations. He was the former owner of Scotts Moving Company. Scott was also a participating member of Teamsters Local 577. He has touched many lives with his numerous jokes and amazing personality. Scott was an amazing father figure to many other children in which he loved as his own. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father; his step-father Harvey Kennedy; Cousin Cliff Harp and a sister-in-law Monica Solis, and best friend Joel Hollenstine.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Tara Bowerman and husband Dustin; sons, Jonathan Mayes and Cameron Taylor; a grandchild, Xzavian Aden Bowerman; his mother Joyce Kennedy all of Amarillo; and a brother Roland Aldon Stone of Arkansas.
