Sgt. Raquel Virginia Saunders

Raquel Virginia Saunders, 50, of Amarillo died October 13, 2021.

Raquel was born January 15, 1971 in Amarillo, TX to Fred and Alice “Josie” Herrera. She graduated from Caprock High School and shortly thereafter went to work for Potter County Sheriff’s Office. Raquel began working at the Amarillo Police Department in 1998 and continued working there for 23 years. At the time of her passing, she was a sergeant in the Domestic Violence Investigation Unit. She enjoyed singing and music, painting and making crafts.

Raquel is survived by her parents, Fred and Josie Herrera; daughter, Christina Harrison; sons, Trae Birkenfeld, Sean Birkenfeld(James Hayhurst) and Anthony Saunders, all of Amarillo, TX; sister, Yolanda Herrera; and grandchildren, Leo and Breanna Birkenfeld, and some amazing friends.

Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m., Monday, October 18, 2021 at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Hillside Christian Church West Campus, 6100 Soncy. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials be made to Top of Texas Charitable Organization.
