Sharon Kay Llewellyn, 68, of Amarillo passed peacefully in her home on Tuesday September 28, 2021.
Memorial service will be 10:00am on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Pinnacle Community Church.
Sharon was born on August 26, 1953 in Amarillo Texas to Dorothy Jean Fender and Hugh Wade Gibbins. As a child growing up in Amarillo, Sharon Kay Gibbins, was the youngest of two. She attended Coronado elementary and Austin Junior High schools as a child, ultimately graduating from Amarillo High School, class of 1970. She spoke with pride as she remembered her senior year at the school’s original location on Polk Street before the fire that altered the history of AHS; ultimately building Amarillo High in a new location across town.
A time after graduation Sharon enrolled at Amarillo College in the Nursing program where she became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Sharon loved taking care of others and was a natural as an LVN at the old St Anthony’s Hospital where she worked in Pediatrics. Sharon had a genuine heart and loved taking care of the babies. Her nursing career also took her to work in several nursing homes in Amarillo and the panhandle. She was a valued employee at Vivians Nursing Home and Bivins Memorial Nursing Home in Amarillo as well as St Ann’s in Panhandle to name a few.
Sharon was married to Al Llewellyn in 1979 and she gave birth to beautiful baby girl in August 1984. Sarah Nicole has been the one true shining star in Sharon’s life. In fact Sharon was so excited when her daughter Sarah recently gave her the wonderful news that Sharon was going to be a grandmother.
Sharon’s nurturing nature was evident in the love she had for her feline companion of 12 years, Mr. Bean. But Sharon’s true passion was for all things green, with her love of plants and gardening. Surrounded by the most beautiful plants throughout her lifetime, Sharon naturally went on to earn a certificate in Horticulture from Texas A&M University. She was known for making every plant she touched grow and thrive to great health, the epitome of a “Green thumb” she could always spot the need for transplanting at just the right time.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy and Wade; a stepdad, Jessie Daniels and her only husband Al Llewellyn, all of Amarillo. Her most recent loss was that of Dennis “Denny” Dobyns, a significant love for the last 5 years. He passed away on the 2nd of August.
Sharon is survived by her brother Larry Gibbins of Spartica, Georgia and by her only child Sarah Nicole Llewellyn, now 37 of Amarillo who is expecting a baby boy, due in January. A grandson to carry on the love and legacy that Sharon shared with her daughter and all those she loved.
