Sheila LaNelle West

Sheila LaNelle West, 80, of Amarillo died July 9, 2020.

Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Sheila was born August 4, 1939 in Pampa, TX. She was a graduate of Pampa Senior High School, Amarillo College, WTAMU, and had a Master’s Degree in Gerontology from Abilene Christian University. Sheila had a great love for work and boasted three careers during her lifetime. Retiring from sales/marketing KVII-TV, Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association of the Texas Panhandle; and most recently, Executive Assistant of Education Credit Union.

Sheila was known as a volunteer person who could always be counted on. She was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Alzheimer’s Association, Amarillo Chamber of Commerce Women’s Council Steering Committee, Amarillo Little Theatre Guild, Panhandle-Plains Museum Auxiliary, Adult Protective Services-Advisory Task Force, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Sheila loved the theatre, action-packed movies, PGA Golf, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. She also promoted wine sales at Market Street as a wine connoisseur. Her high energy, can-do attitude, ready smile and infectious happy personality was an inspiration to all she came into contact with. Her openness to new adventures and experiences will be sorely missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Nina (Puckett) Shelton; and one brother, James N. Shelton.

Sheila is survived by her son Kevin West and partner, Earl Saathoff of Austin; special friends, Scott, Kristen and Maddy Alford, whom she often referred to as her other son.; two cousins; and “Midnight”, her beloved long-haired black cat.
