Shirley Beth Brown Hodges, 85, passed into the arms of Jesus on December 11, 2021.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo.
Shirley was born on June 8, 1936 in Claude, Texas to Clifton and Annie Brown. She grew up in Claude where she was a cheerleader and voted Senior favorite. She was also a member of the 1951-53 state championship girl’s basketball team. She loved being a part of that team and kept in touch with most of the girls she played with. She went on to Clarendon Junior College and played basketball there. That is also where she met her future husband, Stanley Hodges. They married on January 1, 1955 and had a happy marriage until he died in November of 1981 in a car accident. They were blessed with 3 children – Sheri, Stuart, and Scot. She always put her children first and was a fierce advocate for them. She thoroughly enjoyed working at Plano Senior High School as the attendance secretary. Her boys weren’t as happy about that! Shirley was a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan. She loved cheering on her team, but also enjoyed watching any teams play a good game of football. She had several beloved dogs through her life and she loved them dearly. They were like her children. She was also blessed with two granddaughters, who she doted on.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Luther Brown (of Claude); her sisters, Doris McFarland and Jean Skelton (both of Amarillo); her husband, John Stanley Hodges; and her son, Scot Hodges.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheri Hodges George (Brad) of Colorado Springs, CO and her son, Stuart Hodges of Sanger, TX. She is survived by her sister, Wilma Anglin of Wittman, AZ. She is also survived by her granddaughters; Taylor Hodges Martin of Lampasas, TX and Bethany George of Colorado Springs, CO. In addition, she has four beautiful great-grandchildren – Trenton, Scarlett, Sunny, and Lyla. She is also survived by her special sister, Corinne Hess Davis. Her many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews were very dear to her. She is missed by all of her friends and family.
