Shirley (Snell) Harrell passed away in her sleep on September 15, 2023 in Wichita, Kansas, from congestive heart failure. She was 87 years old. Shirley, the ninth of ten children, was born on December 23, 1935 in Kingman, Kansas, where she also attended all twelve grades of school. She had three brothers and six sisters. She earned her professional training as a Registered Nurse from St Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.
A long-time resident of Amarillo, Texas, Shirley worked for many years at High Plains Baptist Hospital (now Baptist St. Anthony’s). Shirley married J. Douglas Harrell on August 28, 1987. She faithfully attended Temple Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Silvers (Jim) Snell and Golia Snell; her brothers William Charles Snell, John W. Snell, and Lester Clifford Snell; her sisters Nellie Carol Fornwalt, Velma Sylvia Taylor, Lois Jane Allen, and Imogene Snell; her husband J. Douglas (Doug) Harrell; and her daughter Cheryan Lee Snell. She is survived by two sisters, Barbara Shrout and Norma June Crane; by many nieces and nephews; and by many of Doug’s children and grandchildren.
She and Doug dearly loved the mountains of New Mexico, and as she wished, her ashes will be spread there, where Doug’s ashes were spread in 1999. There will be no other services or memorials.
