Shirley Porter, 88, of Amarillo died November 30, 2013.
Memorial Service will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 4, at Polk Street United Methodist Church Sanctuary with Rev. Kevin Deckard officiating. Private family interment will be at Memory Gardens. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, Texas.
Mrs. Shirley Jeanne Porter was a proud woman who loved God, her church, her family, her work, and the Tascosa Rebels. She was passionate about life and always had a smile and a kind word. She was dedicated and committed to many things, Greater Southwest Music Festival, the Amarillo College Suzuki Program, and Stock Show results. She loved what her family loved.
She grew up in Amarillo as Shirley Maxfield. She graduated from Amarillo High and moved to Bremerton Washington where she met and married the love of her life, William R. Porter. She and Bill were married 57 years. They were very involved in the lives of their three grandchildren, picking them up from school, attending all games, concerts, and stock shows! “Mimi,” as she was called by all who loved her took so much pride in her grandchildren and recently the birth of her great grand-daughter.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kay Porter of Dallas and Brenda Rossnagel of Amarillo, son-in-law Frank Rossnagel of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Richard Wilkes and wife Sarah, Kathryn Wilkes all of Austin, and Michael Wilkes and wife Taeler and their baby Elly-Mae of Miami, Texas. Other loved members of her extended family include Steve and Christina Rossnagel, and their children Kaitlin and Kristopher.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the music ministry of Polk Street United Methodist Church or the Amarillo College LITE Scholarship Program.
