Simone Jalbert

Simone (Sue) Jalbert, 95, died on Saturday, January 3, 2015. Vigil and rosary will be at 6:00 pm Thursday, January 15 at Schooler Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral, Msgr. Harold Waldow presiding and Fr. Scott Raef concelebrating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral HOme
Sue was born on July 16, 1919 in Fir Mountain, Saskatchewan, Canada to Jeffrey and Martha Deshaies. One of nine children, she grew up on a farm and lost her mother at an early age.
She married A. L. Jalbert on October 24, 1938. Together they farmed in Neptune, Saskatchewan until they moved to Amarillo, TX in 1949. They were custom harvesters and worked from Texas to Montana. Sue kept the harvest crews going by cooking all of their meals and doing their laundry plus driving long distances to get parts for the combines and trucks. They were founding members of St. Laurence Catholic parish where they were very active during the months that they were not on harvest.
In 1976 they moved to Mesa, AZ were they enjoyed retirement living and traveling the country in their motor home.
In 0ctober of 2005 Sue moved back to Amarillo. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic parish and most recently St Mary’s Cathedral.
She was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 3 brothers and her husband who passed away on February 14, 1997.
Sue is survived by her brother Bob Deshaies and wife Margaret of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; two sons, Denis Jalbert and wife Linda of Round Rock, TX and Richard Jalbert and wife Lucy of Amarillo, TX; four grandchildren, Jordan Jalbert and wife Jillian of Friendswood, TX, Luke Jalbert and wife Christy of Amarillo, TX, Quincy Jalbert and wife Kendra of Round Rock, TX, Mark Jalbert and wife, Brandi, of Austin, TX; and 7 great grandchildren and one on the way.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral or Downtown Women’s Center.
