Son Van Tao, 63, passed away on March 11, 2022 in his home in Amarillo, Texas and was surrounded by the steadfast love of his wife, Phuong “Yume” Tao, their son, (Michael Dang), middle daughter and son-in-law (Amy Tao-Foster & Phillip Foster), and youngest daughter (Sonya Tao) when he died.
As a child growing up in Rạch Giá in the Kiên Giang province of south Vietnam, he was both an avid reader of historical and martial arts stories, and a perennial climber of the coconut trees on his family land.
Son immigrated to Amarillo as a refugee with no prior social connections to the area, and after a short time, became a self-determined small business owner with the loyal support of his wife. Since its founding in 1987, Son ran S&S Transmission Specialist and worked diligently six days a week to support his staff and to provide excellent service to the community.
During his leisure time, Son enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching NFL football, and reading. As a father, he instilled in his children the importance of kindness and compassion, as well as having a strong sense of justice, fortitude, and family duty.
Son had a multi-faceted ability to connect with people. He could seriously advise others while also being able to console and comfort through his wry sense of humor.
