Brad Smith, 75, of Amarillo, passed August, 26,2024.

A visitation will be held Friday, September 6, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Schooler Funeral Home 4100 S. Georgia St, Amarillo, Texas 79110. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens. 

Born on October 21, 1948, in Amarillo, Texas, Stephen Bradley Smith, known to all simply as Brad, lived his entire life in the town he loved. On August 26, 2024, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with COPD.

Brad was a man of many talents and interests, but his true calling was as a devoted husband and father. He leaves behind three loving daughters: Dawn London, Kathy Cheney, and Heather Sanchez; his sister, Dixie Henry; and his beloved grandchildren, Ashley Lucente, Bradley Kirkland, Brittney Irvin, Kevin Kirkland, and Aubrey Sanchez. He is now reunited with those who preceded him, including his parents, Rex and Junetta Smith; his wife, Sherry Smith; and his stepson, Chip Gibson.

A proud graduate of Amarillo High School, class of 1967, Brad was a "Sandie" through and through. He was known for his tireless work ethic, which saw him rise from brakeman to conductor over a 40-year career with BNSF Railroad, retiring in 2008.

Brad’s personality was defined by his sarcastic wit, his laid-back demeanor, and his distinct red hair, which he accepted with good humor. He was never one for fancy things, preferring instead the simple comforts: his big, insulated cup always in hand (whether filled with iced tea, water, or Diet Coke), a ball cap or trucker hat on his head, and his latest book nearby.

His interests were varied, and his hobbies were many. Brad was a man who could fix anything around the house or under the hood of a car. His ever-changing hobbies included trying new diets—like the infamous mushroom tea—or picking up new sports, such as tennis and bicycling. He always had a funny quip or sage advice ready for those around him and was a passionate movie lover.

An avid motorcycle rider, Brad frequently took cross-country trips to visit his daughters. Though he set aside his days as a drummer for family life, music always held a special place in his heart. He would often tap out a rhythm with his fingers or play the air drums, a small reminder of his love for the beat.

Throughout his life, Brad shared a special bond with his dogs, his most recent companion being his faithful friend, Chase.

Brad Smith was a man who lived life on his terms, with humor, passion, and a deep love for his family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
