Steve Monroe, 66, of Canyon, passed away Monday, October 10, 2016.
Celebration of Life Services will be at 4:00 PM Friday, October 14, 2016 at River Breaks Ranch, 7802 Durrett Dr., Amarillo 79124, with Pastor Stephen Yowell, his son-in-law, officiating. Ranch attire will be appropriate. The family encourages shooters to bring a shotgun and break a pair to honor Steve. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Steve was born on June 20, 1950 in Plainview to Elzie and Winnie Monroe. They soon moved to Sunray where he lived most of his childhood and adult life. He married Dianne Craig on September 21, 1974 in Sunray, Texas where they lived until 2010. Steve was an innovative farmer following in the footsteps of his father. He was a skilled mechanic who loved to tinker to find ways to make every day items like cars work better and go faster. He enjoyed bird hunting and shooting sports, especially sporting clays where he achieved a Masters Class ranking with the National Sporting Clays Association.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elzie Lee Monroe.
Steve is survived by his wife, Dianne Monroe of Canyon; two sons, Ryan Monroe and wife Jennifer of Amarillo, and Carroll Monroe and wife Terrie of Amarillo; one daughter, Wynn Sherylyn Yowell and husband Stephen, of Tulsa, OK; his mother, Winnie Jones of Dumas; one sister, Carolyn Ledbetter of Dumas; nine grandchildren, Jaci Monroe, Austin Monroe, Madysen Monroe, Jackson Monroe, Grayson Monroe, Kennadi Monroe, Emeri Monroe, all of Amarillo, Avery Yowell and Allison Yowell, both of Tulsa, OK.
