Steve Ray, age 46 of Fritch, Texas left this life on July 13, 2024 just like he lived it, fast and doing what he loved.
The family will receive guests on Friday, July 19, 2024, from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia in Amarillo, and again on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at the First Southern Baptist Church, 520 Overland Trail, Fritch, Texas, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM.
Where to start? Steve was one of the most dynamic, unique individuals to ever grace the face of the earth. He was born January 24, 1978, in Amarillo and graduated from high school in Wellington, Texas. He was drawn to big, loud, heavy, and fast things, starting early in his career as a heavy equipment operator and then working at BNSF Railroad for several years before achieving his dream as owner and operator of Boomtown Cycles.
Steve started repairing and building bikes in his garage; he was self-taught, and he was exceptional. Clients and friends from all over the Panhandle and beyond would turn to him for his expertise. He always served his clients with integrity and fairness. Boomtown Cycles was a family affair—literally, April often said, she had to compete with the business! The couple married on January 17, 2003, in Amarillo, and together, they built a life that many could only dream of.
Steve put his heart and soul into everything he did. He had an unmatchable presence, radiating with confidence, life, and love. He had a way of empowering people. Steve loved fiercely and passionately, with his family and closest friends being the lucky recipients. His favorite times were spent with April, the kids, and especially the grandchildren.
Always working, Steve enjoyed traveling and spending time at the lake when time allowed. He was proud of his Irish heritage and had a fondness for all things Viking.
Steve is survived by his cohort and love of his life, his wife, April; a daughter Avinlea Ray of Fritch; his sons, Joshua McSorley of Amarillo, Austin Ray and his wife Whitney of Borger, Dawlson Allen and Brenham Allen of Higgins; a sister Leslie Young and her husband Britt; his devoted mother Barbara Scott; his father, Jerry Ray; his precious grandchildren, Bowen, Carter Lane, Carter and Camdyn; friends that were family, Jason Dunkerson, Carl Thompson, Terry Bevins, Jonathan Gaytan and Chet Ramsey; and many others too numerous to mention.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Hope Lives Here, 1705 SW 8th Avenue Amarillo, Texas 79101 hlhtexas.org or the Steve Ray Benefit Fund in C/O Amarillo National Bank.
