Susan Mae (Peters) Hicks

Susan Mae Hicks, 84, of Amarillo, passed peacefully on August 21, 2023.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 11 A.M. in the Hillside Christian Church Chapel, 6100 S. Soncy, with Reverend Greg Corona presiding. Interment will be private. Immediately following the memorial service, the family will receive guests at the church before the family meal.

Susan was born on July 17, 1939, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, to N.W. “Bill” and Gladys Faye (Kemp) Peters. She grew up in Sasakwa, Oklahoma, and would eventually earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from East Central State University in Ada, Oklahoma; where she met the love of her life, Mr. Jacky Cline Hicks. They were married on July 3, 1959, and spent 61 amazing years together.

They moved to Amarillo in 1961, where Susan spent 37 years teaching first grade in the same classroom at Oakdale Elementary School. She was a member of Hillside Christian Church, where she loved to volunteer.

Susan had a deep love for our Lord and was at peace knowing she would spend eternity in His arms.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  She loved traveling the world with Jack, spending time with family, bible study, and shopping with the girls.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack, and her grandson Max. Those left to cherish her memories include her son Monte and wife Angela; grandson Cole all of Amarillo; niece Darlene Black and family; niece Sherri Gaede and family; nephew Bobby Peters and family; sister-in-law JoAnn and husband Roger; brother-in-law Jerry and wife Yvonne; and a host of friends who always enjoyed their time with her.
