Sybil Joyce Brown

Sybil Brown was born July 18, 1926, to Sam and Mae Black. She was the third of eight children. On October 16, 2024, she went home to be with her lord at the age of 98 years and three months.

A viewing will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S Georgia in Amarillo and again a at First Baptist Church, Groom from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on the day of the service. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Groom with burial following at the Groom Cemetery.

Sybil graduated from Groom High School in May 1943 and married Bud Brown of Groom the night she graduated. They were married for 43 years and lived in the Groom area all their lives.

She is survived by two children, Brenda Lee and husband Bill of Devine, TX, and Butch Brown and wife Charlene of Ashtola, TX. Two brothers, Herschel Black and wife Ruth, and Chubby Black and wife Nita, all of Hereford, TX.

Gramne was also able to love and spoil 5 grandkids, 11 great-grandkids, and 18 great-great grandkids of her own as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, Poppa and Big Momma Black, and three brothers and two sisters. 

Sybil loved and spoiled numerous kids and adults in the community with her banana pudding, chocolate and strawberry cakes, red beans, and several other dishes she shared with friends and loved ones. 

She worked at several businesses in Groom and was a mainstay at the grocery store for nearly 50 years.
