Sydney Bass Emerson, 76, of Amarillo, TX died November 28, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Memorial services will be held Monday, December 5 at 10:00 a.m. in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Sydney was born Oct. 21, 1935 in Dalhart to Cecil and Evelyn Johnson. She was a graduate of Dalhart High School and the University of Texas at Austin. While she spent her last days in Amarillo, her favorite place was her family cabin in the mountains of Colorado.
Sydney worked as the administrator for Opportunity School until she retired in 1993. Helping underprivileged children get a start in life was not only her vocation, but her passion. Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Opportunity School.
Sydney loved her children, her friends, and her little poodle, Katie. Survivors include her three children, Stewart Bass and wife Jennifer of Watauga, Brenda Wiemann and husband Keith of Murfreesboro, TN, Sherman Bass and wife Patricia of Amarillo, and her brother Stewart Johnson and wife Evelyn and their family of Dalhart.
Sydney never met a stranger and was loved and supported by many friends during her time here. In addition to her children, “Beads” adored her grandchildren, Taylor, Trevor, Jillie, Ellie, Karalei and husband Trevor, Zach, Barrett, Brandon, James, and Mallory and her great-grandchildren, Violet and Penelope.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home
