Teresa Elaine Ray Compton was born February 6, 1957, in Wellington, TX, to Jimmie F Ray and Julia Camilla Coleman Ray.
Teresa grew up and attended school in the Samnorwood community, graduating in 1975 with a class of 9. She was an avid basketball player (one mean guard!) was Most Improved Player, Most Valuable Defensive Player, Basketball Captain, Basketball Sweetheart, FFA Sweetheart, Lions Club Sweetheart, and achieved many other accolades in high school.
After graduation, Teresa moved to Canyon, TX, and attended two semesters at West Texas State University, but she soon realized her life calling was to be a hairdresser. She moved to the old TSTI campus to attend hair school and obtained her beauticians license in 1977, and spent 44 years making people beautiful.
Teresa was a true "old school beautician" and began her career at Terrific Tom, then at Keith's, and at the time of her retirement, spent 34 years at Slique's Hair Salon, where she cut, curled, styled, permed, back-combed, and buzzed generations of clients. She loved every one of them and accommodated many by going to their homes, nursing homes, rehabs, and at times, funeral homes to give a client their last "do." If an aunt or cousin happened to "drop by" the shop, Teresa often found a way to squeeze them into her busy schedule, not desiring anyone to leave with bad hair! Her heart was for you to leave the shop looking and feeling fabulous!
Teresa married Roger L Compton on September 17, 1997, in Amarillo and moved to the Bushland community in 2000, just in time for the big snow!
Teresa loved the Lord and was a member of Hillside Christian Church. She loved attending TCAB Monday night women's bible study, where she was showered with love and encouragement.
She fought a hard fight with grace and dignity and has received her reward! Hallelujah!
Teresa is survived by her husband, Roger of Bushland; her sister Sam (Alethea) Tignor and husband Clarence of Bushland, and their children Jennifer Ewer and husband Jeff of Sayre, OK; Jason Segura and wife Carrie of Amarillo; Stephen Tignor and wife Cindy of Hominy, OK, and Daniel Tignor and wife Melissa of Oxford, NC; her brother J.D.
