Theresa Marie Rider, 66 of Amarillo, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016.
A Vigil will be held at 6:00 PM Thursday, December 29, 2016 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 S. Coulter. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Friday, December 30, 2016 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. John Valdez as celebrant. The mass will be live streamed through St. Thomas’ website at https://stthomasamarillo.org/. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, at 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, TX.
Theresa was born on March 12, 1950 in Tulia, TX to Philip and Dora Pohlmeier. Theresa graduated from Nazareth High School in 1968. She attended and graduated from Texas Tech University. While attending Texas Tech, she met her soul mate, Gary Rider, on a blind date at a Texas Tech Football game. They were married on November 14, 1970 in Nazareth, TX.
Theresa and Gary moved to Claude, TX in 1977 and raised their four children. While in Claude, Theresa ran her own tax preparation business and then worked for Claude I.S.D. as the secretary for the Superintendent. In 2001 Gary and Theresa moved to Amarillo where she worked for Amarillo College. While at Amarillo College she was the Assistant Vice President of Finance until she retired in 2013.
Theresa was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandma. She loved life, her family, and her Lord. Gary and Theresa enjoyed their retirement to the fullest traveling to such places as Italy, Ireland, Spain, and Portugal. While Theresa enjoyed her travels, nothing gave her more joy than spending time with family, especially her five grandchildren. They each brought such happiness to her life as her family can attest by the many family pictures.
Theresa was very involved at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. She shared her time by volunteering with the Prayer Shawl Ministry. She was also a member of the Altar Guild and helped with funeral meals.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Theresa is survived by her husband of 46 years Gary Rider of Amarillo; two daughters, Sonia Richardson and husband Scott of Amarillo, Erika Gerecke and husband Dan of Lubbock; two sons, Kevin Rider and wife Trena of Bushland, and Brent Rider and wife Deborah of Bronte and five grandchildren, Sheridan, Ashton and Austin Rider of Bushland, and Jack and Luke Richardson, of Amarillo. Three sisters, Beth Schulte-Harder of New Braunfels, Rita Pohlmeier of Denver, CO, and Germaine Witt of Henderson, NV; five brothers, Greg Pohlmeier of Amarillo, Walt Pohlmeier of Tulia, Ralph Pohlmeier of Yukon, OK, Frank Pohlmeier of Amarillo, and Robert Pohlmeier of Castle Rock, CO and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation in the name of Theresa Rider to the St. Thomas Prayer Shawl Ministry, c/o St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 S. Coulter, Amarillo, TX 79109 or Another Chance House, 209 S. Jackson St., Amarillo, TX 79101.
