Thomas C. Neese, M.D., 75, of Amarillo died Thursday, July 11, 2013.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2013 in Amarillo Botanical Gardens, 1400 Streit.
Thomas was born July 23, 1937 in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma to J. D. and Elizabeth A. Hill Neese.
He graduated from Seminole High School in 1955 and from the University of Oklahoma in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science. In 1964 he married Judith Ann Theissen in Oklahoma City.
He graduated from the University of Oklahoma Medical School in 1965 and completed an internship at Maricopa County Hospital in 1966. He was a doctor in the United States Navy and was assigned to the 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines in Vietnam in 1966. After serving in the military, he completed residency in Internal Medicine at Maricopa County Hospital and then a Cardiology Fellowship at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix and at the University of Oklahoma. He moved his family to Amarillo in 1973 where he established his cardiology practice and worked for 25 years.
Dr. Neese served the Amarillo medical community in many positions and was instrumental in advancement of cardiac care in this area. He developed the cardiac catheterization labs at High Plains Baptist Hospital and Northwest Texas Hospital where he performed the first cardiac catheterizations. He also held many positions at both hospitals including Chief of Intensive Care Unit and the Coronary Care Unit and Chief of Medicine. He also performed the first coronary angioplasty in Amarillo in 1982.
Thomas was a proud father and grandfather and was devoted to his family. He took great pleasure in the outdoors and enjoyed family camp outs. He also enjoyed motorcycles, particularly Harleys, his English bulldogs (Scooter, Dozer, Crusher, Tugger, and Buster), and had a passion for flying airplanes.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Judith; two daughters, Julia Dunn and husband Steve of Bastrop and Dr. Susan Neese and husband Danny Richburg of Amarillo; two sons, Michael Neese and wife Lesa of Bastrop and Andrew Neese of Amarillo; his mother, Elizabeth Neese of Amarillo and nine grandchildren; Cole, Rendi, Kyler, Chance, Riley, Alexi, Weston, Garrad and Whitney.
