Thomas “Tommy” Eugene VanCamp, 64, of Amarillo left this world and ascended to heaven on Friday, January 8, 2021.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Dreamland Cemetery, 26500 US-87, Canyon, Texas 79015. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St, Amarillo, Texas 79110. After graveside services family will be receiving guests at 916 W. Cherry Ave. Amarillo, Texas 79108. Viewing at the funeral home will be Wednesday, January 13, 2021 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Tommy was born on July 7, 1956 in Amarillo, Texas to Thomas Eugene (Gene) and Ernestine VanCamp and raised by Bernie Derryberry Jr. after the passing of his father. He was a graduate of Caprock High School. Tommy was a bull rider in his younger days, enjoyed building and working with his hands, being outdoors fishing, watching sports on TV, and playing his Xbox. Tommy was a truck driver for most of his life. He was the most caring and giving soul that you would ever know. He was the main caregiver in his family taking care of his mother until the end of her life. He always was the big brother or uncle that siblings, nieces, and nephews could count on.
He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas (Gene) VanCamp; his mother, Ernestine VanCamp Derryberry; his stepfather, Bernie Derryberry Jr.; his son, Copen Wheeler; and his brother, Bernie Derryberry III.
Tommy is survived by his brother, Paul Don Campbell of Amarillo Texas; his three sisters, Sharon Murdock and husband John of Canyon Texas, Sunday Webster and husband Jody of Amarillo Texas, and Sandra Smith and husband Bruce of Amarillo Texas; and a very large extended family that loved him dearly.
