Tommy Wayne Cox

January 24, 1951 — October 13, 2024

Amarillo

Tommy Wayne Cox, age 73, of Amarillo, entered Heaven on October 13, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Coulter Road Baptist Church, 4108 Coulter, Amarillo, Texas.

Tommy was born in Amarillo on January 24, 1951, to his parents, Ralph Jack and Thelma Elizabeth Smith Cox. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1970.

On September 26, 1970, Tommy married Nancy Lynn Newell at the First Assembly of God in Amarillo. This marked the beginning of a love story that would span fifty-four years. Their two children, Timothy and Jackie, brought immense joy to their lives, a joy that only grew with the arrival of their grandchildren.

Tommy's dedication to his career in the oil and gas industry, working for OneOK, was unwavering. He retired after forty-five years of service, a testament to his commitment and hard work. In his spare time, he enjoyed mowing, washing cars, and spending time with family and friends.

The only thing that took precedence over his love for his family was Tommy's love for the Lord. He had a servant's heart and cherished working at Coulter Road Baptist Church, helping widows in need. Tommy was so proud to be ordained a Deacon at the church. What made him prouder still were the lessons he instilled in his family to love one another and to serve the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gene Cox, his nephew Aaron Cox, and his sister-in-law Nadia Cox.

Tommy is survived by the love of his life and best friend, Nancy; his son, Timothy J. Cox and Naomi Chapman; his daughter, Jackie Lynn Mixon and husband Randy; his grandchildren, Jade Lynn Trimble and husband Preston, Lane Cox and wife Shannon, Trevor Hickey all of Amarillo, and Tyler Cox of Groom; his great-grandson, Bentley Trimble; his dear friends for over fifty years, Jerry and Fay Morris of Amarillo; and many more loving family members and friends.
