Thomas D. “Tommy” Dement, 74, died Thursday, March 21, 2013.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 25, 2013, in Llano Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. Howard Batson officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, Texas.
Mr. Dement was born November 25, 1938 in Pampa, Texas to Ivan and Grace Dement. In 1987, he married Jo Ann Shortes in Amarillo.
Tommy worked as a highway contractor with his father, Ivan, at Ivan Dement, Inc. for many years, retiring in 1990. He was an avid and accomplished golfer and six-time winner of the Tascosa Country Club Men’s Championship. He also placed in the Senior British Open in 1993.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann; two daughters, Jill Dement of Lubbock, Texas and Deborah Fischer and husband, Gary, of Houston; one son, Gary Dement; their mother Judy Smith; a step-daughter, Connie Shortes of Austin; step-son Larry Chris Shortes, of Amarillo; a brother, Roddy Dement of Lake Tanglewood; two grandchildren, Torri Dement and Grayson Fischer; and one great-grandchild, Trinity.
The family suggests memorials to Presbyterian Home for Children, 3400 S. Bowie, Amarillo, Texas 79109; or your favorite charity.
