Tommy Ray Vehon

Tommy Vehon, 77, of Amarillo, died Sunday, July 24, 2016.

Graveside Services will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Llano Cemetery with Gena Sams, BSA Hospice of the Southwest chaplain as officiant.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Tommy was born November 1, 1938 in Borger to Howard and Clarice Vehon.  He proudly served in the U. S. Navy and after retiring he went to work for the U. S. Postal Service and retired after eighteen and a half years.  Tommy married Rubye McEntire Austin on November 14, 1975 in Amarillo.  Tommy resided at Ussery-Roan Texas State Veteran’s Home for the past three years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rubye; his sister, Evelyn Laney; and his brother, Doug Vehon.

Tommy is survived by his son by marriage, Randall Austin and wife, Carla of Amarillo; his sister, Patsy Finlan of Lubbock; his niece, Vikki Roberts of Edmond, OK; his nephew, Robert Lewis of McKinney; his great-nephew, Russ Collins of Frisco; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Ussery-Roan for their wonderful care and friendship and also the staff at Hospice Care of the Southwest as they helped him quietly pass into the arms of Jesus.
