Thomas Nicholas Britten, 95 of Groom died Friday, March 17, 2017.
Rosary will be said 6:00 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2017 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic
Church in Groom, Texas. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the
church with Rev. Raj Samala as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in
Groom, Texas. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Tom was born on May 21, 1921 in Groom to Bernard and Josephine Britten. He was enlisted in
the US Army Air Force and served in the European theater during World War II. On December
30, 1946 he married the love of his life, Doris Acker at Holy Family Catholic Church in
Nazareth. Tom owned and operated Britten Supply for over 70 years. He loved classical music,
dancing, playing cards and dominos, and reading about science, technology and history.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Margaret, Leona, and Louise; son-in-law
Donny Williams; grandson, Tommy Williams; and daughter-in-law, Christina Britten.
Tom is survived by his wife Doris Britten; six children, Janice Williams of Canyon, Ron Britten
of Cheyenne, WY, Diana Davenport and husband Robert of Plano, Patty Haner and husband
Dale of Buda, Sharon Wilhelm and husband Danny of Amarillo, and Connie Britten of Plano;
ten grandchildren, Julie, Chris, Lisa, Brad, Brian, Bob, Keith, Katie, Kara, and Irina; seven greatgrandchildren, Jeffrey, Elise, Claire, Evan, Garrett, Michael and Kayleigh; four brothers, Ray Britten and wife Alice of Groom, James Britten and wife Erma Lee of White Deer, George
Britten and wife Janie of Groom, and Melvin Britten of Duncan, OK.
Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Building Fund, 411 Ware Ave.
