Velma Louise Douglass

Velma Louise Douglass, 88, of Amarillo passed away Saturday, March 6, 2021.

Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Redeemer Christian Church, 3701 Soncy. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Velma was born October 4, 1932 in Jacksonville, Illinois to Hartley and Hazel Birdsell. She graduated Ashland High School and later married Gerald Douglass on June 11, 1950.

Velma worked hard her whole life, had a giving heart and always put others first. She was a member of Redeemer Christian Church and made handmade birthday cards for the congregation.  Velma loved the art of making ceramics and had put in 3300 hours volunteering at BSA Hospital.  Velma loved reading and loved her cats.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Hartley and Hazel Birdsell; her husband, Gerald; her son, Michael; her brother; Chuck and two sisters; Marie and Ruth.

Velma is survived by her son, Dr. Phil Douglass and wife, Debi and her daughter; Cali Michael and her husband, Jason; her sister, Clara Miller and her brother, Bill Birdsell; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made to BSA Hospice of the Southwest, 5211 SW 9th Ave. Suite 100, Amarillo, Texas 79106 and Redeemer Christian Church, 3701 Soncy Rd. Amarillo, Texas 79119
