Velma Dale Waren, 98, of Amarillo died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012.
Private family services will be in Houston at a later date. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
Mrs. Waren was born May 27, 1914, in Blackburn, Okla., to Cloyd and Jessie Scott. She grew up in Hominy, Okla., and married the love of her life, Russel Waren, on May 16, 1942, in Tulsa, Okla.
Velma was a talented seamstress, and created beautiful clothing and other items that were cherished by family and friends. She previously lived in Houston and moved to Amarillo in 2002, to be closer to her daughter. She was a member of Saint Stephen United Methodist Church. Velma was a very loving mother and grandmother, and will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992, and a sister, Maxine Nickel.
Survivors include a daughter, Kay Brandt and husband Terry of Amarillo; two grandsons, Mark Brandt and wife Julie of Arlington and Russ Brandt of Amarillo; five great-grandchildren, Brittany, Ashton, Marshall, Darby and Blakely; and a sister, Jackye Sorensen of Houston.
The family suggests memorials be to Salvation Army.
