Vera Mae (Edwards) York

Vera Mae York, 88, of Amarillo, passed peacefully on September 8, 2023, surrounded by her beloved family.

The family will receive guests on Monday, September 11, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home's Brentwood Chapel, with Pastor Robert Bennett presiding. Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery.

Mrs. York was born on March 11, 1935, in Nocona, TX, where she attended Prairie Valley School. She married Alvin (Jinx) I. York in 1953, and then they moved to Amarillo in 1958. Mrs. York worked at Levi Strauss for 15 years, then ran a home daycare until her retirement.

Her hobbies and interests were sewing and keeping up, watching and cheering for her grandkids during their sports. She also loved big family get-togethers. The family will be at 1401 Carter.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra and Darel Jones of Amarillo and Karen and Neal Purkey of Catawba, NC. One son, Al Wayne, and Suzanne York of Amarillo. Six grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by Jeremy Lane York (grandson), Alvin (Jinx) I. York (husband), Brothers Ray Edwards and Basil F. Edwards, Sister Inez Shiver, and Parents Albert and Lillian Edwards.
