Verba Cee “Jackie” Evans, 87, died Monday, October 14, 2013.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013 in Park Central Parlor, 1300 S. Harrison, with Chaplain Jerry Bell as officiant. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
Jackie was born March 31, 1926 in De Leon, Comanche County, Texas to Curtis and Cora Jackson. She attended high school in Abilene and also attended Hardin Simmons University. She married James Kenneth Newman in St. Louis in 1944. He passed in 1996. She married Jack Evans in Amarillo in 1975. He preceded her in death in 2006.
Jackie and Kenneth started Newman Jewelers in Abilene. She moved to Amarillo in 1969 and worked for Wagner’s Jewelers for many years. She was owner of The Weathervane Antique Store on West 6th Street beginning in 1978. She had an excellent sense of merchandising and retail sales and enjoyed her work.
Survivors include a; three sons, James Kenneth “Ken” Newman, Jr. and wife, Susan of Phoenix, Jeff Newman and wife Tammy and Steve Newman all of Ft. Worth; seven grandchildren, Brady Newman, Sarah Newman, Landry Newman, Jamey Newman, Steve Webb, Cathy Sanders, and Doug Clark; eight great and seven great-great grandchildren; and a step-daughter, Sylvia Webb of Amarillo
The family would like to extend their utmost gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Park Place Towers who cared for Jackie with love and affection.
